(And, for those of you who read all the way until the end of this post, I have three free TV host casting gifts I want to give you access to. Watch the video at the end to find out what your gifts are…)
**Now, I’m about to share some of my top secrets. These are sacred to me, and I’m honestly afraid to share them with people sometimes, so I hope you take these seriously!
Myth #1: “You can only book the big hosting jobs if you have TONS of experience.
The Truth: You DON’T have to have TONS of experience to start off….
[I actually booked a big gig WITHOUT any previous paid experience.]
Want to know how I did it?
(*BTW, this is part of “The Major Skill Development Bootcamp©” I teach in my online class.)
- Of course, you need to be good at what you do. Get training, develop your skills, practice practice practice
- And THEN…. here’s what you do: Create your own experience. Yes, you read that correctly. Don’t wait for someone to choose you or hire you. Choose yourself and create your own experience. Here’s how:
I did this many times. If I wanted video for my reel showing me interviewing someone on-camera, I didn’t wait to book a job like that. I set up a camera myself and interviewed a local artist. Then, I added the video to my reel. (You can do this with an acting scene too. OR, find a photographer who want to trade modeling for photos so you can both build up your portfolios. I got lots of great photos this way.)
Isn’t that awesome? You can build a pretty good resume, reel and portfolio with your own stuff. This can help you book some of the really big high paying gigs out there.
Myth #2: “You’ll be driving all over town to audition after audition, and you have to be ready to perform at a moment’s notice.”
It’s not true! I’ve done this. I’d drive all over the state, from audition to audition, memorizing tons of lines. I sat in so many waiting rooms with a bunch of nervous hosts, models and actors. It’s not the funnest part of the profession. I’d book some and lose some.
THEN, I discovered something pretty incredible…
…there are tons and tons of opportunities to be on camera, and many you can do from home! Isn’t that crazy?! Half my work these days is traveling and seeing the world, but the other half is from home. Can you believe it?! Here’s how I do it:
I set up my own home studio so I can shoot and host videos myself. This opened the doors to tons more acting and modeling job opportunities. Seriously, if you do this, it creates more freedom in your life, allows you to have more flexibility with your time, and makes you way more money. Does that sound good? (I offer a FREE virtual tour of my home studio, a list of affordable gear I recommend, and a tutorial on how to set it up in your home as a free bonus gift if you want to enroll as one of my students. People pay big bucks to learn this stuff, but I’ll to gift it to you for free.)
Myth #3: Host job opportunities are exclusive, few, and far between, and you have to wait for your agent to send them to you…
…Truth: Nope! You DON’T have to wait around to have an agent send you all your auditions and bookings…
Getting an agent can be challenging for some, and after you get one, they may not send you as many opportunities as you’d like. I love my agent, and she send me good stuff, but I also like to take my destiny into my own hands sometimes. Did you know you can, in fact, bring many bookings TO your agent. (First of all, they’ll be thrilled, and then they will do their part to negotiate the terms of the contract for you to make sure you get paid fairly. You both get money, and you’re both happy!)
So how to do you find hosting jobs on your own?
There is seriously a GOLDMINE of opportunities out there. I’m about to to tell you how to find it. These strategies have helped me to double my bookings and double my income. Would you like to do that too? (This is part of the “Job Generator” strategy I teach in my online course, which I’ll tell you about in a minute.)
Ok, get this: not all companies and organizations use the same titles when they are casting.
*When searching for jobs, it’s super important to not just limit yourself to one title or search term, like just “host.” People in the industry use many different words to describe the individual they want to hire to represent their company on camera.
So, it’s really important to search with many different titles. I call all these different job names, “T-Terms™” and I actually give my online students the exact list of all 13 “T-Terms™” they should use to discover hidden host jobs.)
*Knowing, using, and searching with this kind of variety of terms can help open many, many more opportunities for you. (In my online course, I go even deeper and explain how and where exactly to search too.)
Now I’m going to reveal one of the most important “T-Terms™” that totally changed my life, because it could change your life too…
Ten years ago, I went in for an audition and interview with the top talent agent in the area. My heart was pounding. I did my best.
After speaking for a few minutes, I heard the woman across from me say the words,
“we already have girls like you, so we are not going to represent you at this time.”
I got rejected! And I was devastated. I left feeling deflated.
When I was starting out, I knew I wanted to be on camera and get on TV, but I couldn’t figure out how. I did a little bit of modeling and acting, but the work wasn’t consistent enough. I wanted to be a host. I had to find a way to make money and pay the bills! There was no one to guide me, so I had to forge my own path. I got creative, I took classes, learned the hard way how to look and sound good on camera, and I found unique ways to book work on my own. I went to graduate school and got a master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. I learned everything I could about cameras, lighting, scripts, proper voice technique, shooting video, and editing video. I booked more and more on-camera projects, edited my own reel. I got REALLY good at being an on-camera host. Before I knew it, agents were begging to represent me!
BUT – I didn’t really know what to call my skillset though- was I a host? Or a spokesperson? It didn’t sound right. What I was good at was being a COMBINATION of a model, an actress, a reporter, a TV host, a brand ambassador, and a spokesperson. So what was I?
Well one day I heard my agent call me – ‘a SPOKESMODEL’…
and a lightbulb went off in my mind.
A surge of excitement filled me.
“Brands want Spokesmodels to represent them on-camera or at live-events,” I realized. “They need someone polished, professional, yet friendly and approachable.”
I jumped on this new opportunity! Once I became a Spokesmodel, I booked job after job after job. Before I knew it, I had young actors, models and hosts who were trying to book Spokesmodel gigs asking me for advice and direction. When I’d go to auditions, I’d meet girls and guys in the waiting area who were freaking out. Some of them would ask me for advice, like, “how do I read a teleprompter well?”, “how do I make my voice sound professional?”, and “what do I do with my hands?”. Another woman asked me “how on earth do you book so many Spokesmodel jobs?” I wanted to help them!
I realized, there was no training on how to be a Spokesmodel, so I wanted to change that. I launched “The Spokesmodel Academy™” to give individuals like you the shortcut – the opportunity to take advantage of the great new Spokesmodel career that I enjoy.
I figured out how to do it the hard way. Before I found success, I went through years of experimentation, all sorts of different classes, confusion and rejection. (In “The Spokesmodel Academy™,” I tell my students some of my most embarrassing moments as a Spokesmodel and how you can avoid the humiliation I experienced!)
I love my career as a Spokesmodel. I have a flexible life. I travel when I want to. People see me on TV or online all the time. I feel like it’s time for me to share my techniques and strategies with you, so you can avoid the long journey I’ve taken, and get started right away launching yourself as a successful Spokesmodel.
This online class is tailored for motivated individuals who want to earn great money and see themselves on TV and online videos. Is it cool if I go over what’s in the course? Watch the video below and find out how to get your free bonus gifts (including my Home Studio Tour!)
